You understand that you need to exercise to keep your body in good shape, but did you recognize that you should also do some activities for your brain to keep your brain fit? Your brain is like a muscle and it should be worked out every so often so that you have the ability to remain as bright as possible. One of the ways you can work your brain is to complete a short-term memory exercise or two. Short-term memory is what we use to embrace information for just a short time. A few examples of information we use short-term memory for include phone numbers, and so on. Short-term memory is so called because after we have it we lose it. This allows our minds to remain open to take in more information so that it’s not all mixed up with pointless garbage. By completing exercises for short-term memory, however, we will increase the amount of information we are able to maintain in our short-term memories and we can even improve the time in which it remains there.

The Picture Game – Peek A Boo

A great exercise for short-term memory [improvement|} is a game where you study a photo. This can be any picture you want. It could be one you pick out from a newspaper, it can be one of you and your friends at a gathering; it can be anything at all. Stare at the photo for a few moments and then remove it from site. Using a pen and paper, try to write down all the details you can about the picture. Afterwards, look at the picture again. Were you able to get everything right? Did you get a couple of details incorrect? By completing this exercise over and over, you are working your short-term memory and this will improve your capacity for holding information. This is a fun game for developing your short-term memory and it’s one the entire family can enjoy. Yes it is even great for improving children’s short term memory.

Audio Exercises

Similar to the picture exercise, you couldutilize audio clips to help exercise your short-term memory. Again you could use whatever you like. You can use a top twenty countdown on the radio, you could utilize talk radio, anything at all. However, make sure you can go back to whatever you are listening to so that you can go back and verify your work. Try to recall all the facts you can by writing them down once the piece is over. Then, go back to discover how many details you got remembered correctly. By repeating over and over, you can increase your short-term memory power and this will increase your ability to remember things you hear.

These ideas are simply a couple of instances on how to improve your memory now, or more specifically, how to exercise your short-term memory. These can be attempted wherever and the more you practice, the better your short-term memory will be. That’s amazing news for everyone who hears something and then it goes in one ear and out the other. By doing exercises for short-term memory, soon you will be able to hold onto that information a quite a bit longer.
